Kitawaga Utamaro’s Cooling off by the Riverbank and Mary Cassat’s In the Omnibus both depict two women and a child. These paints were painted by different painters who have different culture and country. Cassat was American and Utamaro was Japan but we can see similar topic on both picture such as relationships with women and children. Because both painters use the same style which is realistic figures and they have lived on a close time period. Also both picture were made in 19th century. People look anxious but calm in the both paints. Therefore, these outlooks make confuse who look at pictures.  In the Cooling off by the Riverbank two women wear traditional clothes in contrast to In the Omnibus. First picture has crowd background  but other picture has simple backround.  In the background we can see some canoe on the river in the first picture while a series of three windows are behind them in the other picture. In the Cooling off by the Riverbank, the child collor to one woman’s hand. However in the Mary’s paint, the child sit on the woman’s lap. Nevertheles, women seems to interested with children. Clearly, two painters were realist and their times were same but they unknown to eachother. Nevermore, two different pictures tell to us similar things.
